Emily Mengershausen

Emily Mengershausen – Setter & Head Coach

Emily was born in Houston, TX. At a young age, her mom put her in dance but she soon realized that gymnastics was a better fit for her adventurous spirit. She continued until the age of 17 when she suffered an elbow injury and it was suggested that she try another sport. This was when she tried climbing for the first time and fell in love with the puzzle of solving routes. Emily worked at the local wall performing any and all tasked that they would allow her to do. She was hooked, climbing every day, training, and competing. At 18, she moved to Estes Park, Colorado to try her hand at outdoor sport climb and bouldering. Needless to say, she loved it! When Emily, her husband, and two kids moved to Fairbanks from Eagle River they soon became Ascension Rock Club members. She then became the first employee at Ascension. After a short time, she started the youth climbing program and route setting. Now USA Climbing certified and taking her team to Regional, Divisional and National level competitions. Also, level 1 certified route setter through USA Climbing. Six years later her family still loves climbing together at Ascension and she loves learning everything she can about the awesome sport of climbing. Remember to work hard, stay humble, and have fun!
